Brotherhood of Assault

The second novel in the Unwritten Series continues the inside glimpse into the supernatural forces existing beyond the human realm.

Five human’s simple night at sea ends in being attack by unnamed assailants and saved by supernatural beings. Suddenly, they find themselves in a magical land untouched by time as they’re called to give up everything to save the world.

Assembling the five humans for the Serpent of Time group was easy compared with the challenge Wihni faces to train them in their dormant abilities. Sionn’s reluctance to reveal his background or live up to his potential only complicates the situation.

Just as the group appears to make progress, they’re struck with the real toll of the self-sacrifice it takes to be heroes with the power to help humankind. Do they have what it takes to save the world from complete destruction?

Secrets, lies, and adventures abound as the unlikely heroes strive to unravel their own success, the foes threatening them, and the underlying purpose of the Thirteen Skulls and Serpent of Time.

Brotherhood of Assault is Just Amazing

Brotherhood of Assault picks up where Serpent of Time left off. Wihni and Sionn have finally gathered the five humans that are to be part of the Serpent of Time group. Now, it’s time to convince Angellee, Ambar, Emmon, Malakh, and Kashina that they are not murderers. The group has to be trained intensively, and everyone has to learn to get along with each other.

Of course, they still have to find what they are looking for, and kick some evil butt as well. But it’s not as easy or straightforward as they anticipated.

I liked Serpent of Time; but I love Brotherhood of Assault. It’s a story that just keeps getting better and better; and the build up is extraordinary. Like in the first Unwritten book, the author blends different cultures together, and it’s very evident that he did his homework when it comes to the history, languages, and traditions of all the different cultures that are featured.

The plot is more serious than that of Serpent of Time, and there is more action and barely any humor as it progresses (which is good, because that’s the way it should be). The events that take place just sucked me in, and I experienced no predictable moment with this book. Of course, there are a few heart-breaking moments in the story, which just makes it more real. There is more insight to the workings of the minds of the characters, and the character development is just that: an actual development.

In all, Brotherhood of Assault is just amazing. It has the perfect blend of action, romance, annoying and sweet characters, and everything else that makes a beautiful story. If you are a fan of action and adventure with a pinch of romance, I dare you to read it!

Original Review

The Second Book in the Series Continues to Impress

Brotherhood of Assault continues the adventures of the Serpent of Time group with a larger attention to the training of the humans in the group. The second book in the series continues to impress in its descriptions and how the plots play out. The characters also continue to impress. I, for one, love Sionn and Kashina together, and I hope it stays that way.

The book introduces the reader to some more Dark Ones the group will have to conquer to win the war. The five humans personalities in the group are further reveled – their inner strength also as they’re trained. While Brotherhood of Assault has more action than Serpent of Time book, it falls short of the ‘light’ humorous touch of the latter. I guess the story is getting serious as it progresses – which I believe it should. The book however, make up for that in its’ well thought out plots and games (yes, there are games and I love it). Brotherhood of Assault opens the reader’s imagination on what’s to come in the next book. And oh, Wihni did find happiness, before… happened. But do not despair; there is more happiness for her on the way.

If you liked the first book, you will definitely like this one and will be dying for the next book to be out. If this is the first book you’re reading in the series, you will enjoy it still, and your curiosity will be on a high for the other books.
